BELFAST SPORTS CLUB.

SEASON OPENED. The Belfast, Sports Club, which includes bowling. tennis and cricket sections, opened its 1923-6 season on Saturday afternoon. Despite rather unfavourable weather conditions, there was a large atTho president of the club. Mr J. R- D. Johns, in declaring the season open, remarked upon the nourishing condition of the club, and reminded those present that tho present prosperous state of all airs had been attained in a little over a year. Mr Johns read several apologies for absence, and also sovera-l invitations to bo present, at. the opening day celebrations of a number of bowling and tennis clubs. After the season had been declared open, Mrs E. Rudkin threw the kitty, and Mrs Johns delivered the first bowl. During tho afternoon enjoyable games of tennis and bowls were played. The only organised game was a challenge cricket match between a team of Christchurch Woolbrokers and Auctioneers and a team from the Belfast Club. The Christchurch team were dismissed for 127 rims, and Belfast replied with 7f> runs. Tho principal sconers in the Woolbrokers team were: A. Nicolls 31. A. Cook 27, R. Graham 21 and —. Ballantyne 35. P. Hall 17 and W. Grimshaw 20 were the most successful batsmen for Belfast. The following are the results of the games of bowls played during tlv* afternoon. Two rinks and two doubles were played:— Rink I—Howard, Hayes, Simpson and Jones 25 beat Barnes, Comyns, Iteagley and Ramsav 10. Rink 2—Harrington. Reid. Baldwin and Chat field 19 l>eat Childs, Anderson. Charter’s and White 13. Doubles*—Hadley senr. and Halligan 24 beat Hadley, junr.. and Bollington 23. Several side-shows during the afternoon added greatly to tho delight of tho children present.
