SUMNER-ItEDCLIFFB DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. The 1923 season of tlio Sumncr-Redcliffs Defence Rifle Club was opened at the Redcliffa range on Saturday, when there was a good attendance of members. The president. Mr C. M. Roswell, stated that the opening day really marked the commencement on a sound footing of the Sum ner-Rod cliffs Club. Last season the club came into being after shooting dates had been allocated, and consequently had a diffl. ‘lt time getting in practice. Notwithstanding these difficulties, two members—Messrs O. Timbrell and J. D. Ed-monds-secured honours in the South Island Rifle Association's meeting, the former winning tho Tyro Cup and other prizes. He had pleasure in announcing that Mr W. 11. Nicholson, the Mayor of Sumner, who had generously donated a cup for competition, was present, and celled upon Mr Nicholson to declare the season open Mr Nicholson, in declaring the season open, congratuldated the club on its successful formation, and wished it every possible success.
