Sir Donald Maclean, when opening the Liberal free tr.ide campaign before a large gathering of Scottish Liberals at Perth, vsaid. that the preference developments at the Imperial Conference raised a vital issue. Preference was simply the old enemy, protection, disguised, and Liberals would give it no quarter.
