Mrs and Miss M’Farlane, who were at The Grosvenor, Timaru, motored back yesterday to Culverden. Dr and Mrs Pearson returned from "Mount Cook on Saturday and are at the Hydro Grand, Timaru. Amongst the officinl partv visiting the Scout shij> at Redcliff.s on Saturday afternoon were Mrs Andrew, tiie wife of the chairman of the Dominion Executive, Miss Andrew and Mrs Colorina. The death occurred in Christchurch on Friday of Airs Isabella Anderson, aged 79 years, relict of th e late Mr William Anderson, of Flemington. Mrs Anderson arrived in Lyttelton in 1867, and after her marriage, two years later, settled on a farm with her husband in the Ellesmere district. Later they shifted tc Ashburton. Mrs Anderson having, until twelve months ago, when she went to Christchurch, resided at 'Flemington for about forty years. She was very well known and greatly respected. There are four sons and one daughter, namely. Messrs W. J. Anderson, Flemington; G. J. Anderson, Ashburton ; John Anderson an.l Albert- Anderson. Christchurch; and Mrs W. J. Taylor, Ashton.

The sale of er%kes, sweets, homemade bread and flowers in aid of the equipment and band funds of the St Matthew’s (Lady Liverpool’s Own) troop of Boy Scouts, which took place by kind permission of the management of Everybody’s, in the vestibule of that theatre on Saturday morning, proved very successful. A supply of daffodils, forwarded by the Hon Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, were eagerly sought for. Their sale markedly increased the total receipts. A good clearance was effected of most of the goods, the total receipts being £B. Several members of the troop assisted and the sale was conducted by Mesdames D.. Lee. F. Cowper, J. S. Kelly and E. Hillsden. The guessing competition was won by Mr Cow per, of the staff of the London, Liverpool and Globe Insurance Company.

An enjoyable afternoon was spent on Saturday at the Richmond Hill Golf House, when a number of visitors and players assembled for tho prize-giving and the closing of the season. Air and Mrr. C. J. Alarfcin, of Dunedin, are in Christ church for a few days. Amongst yesterday’s arivals from the north was Airs F. A. Skinner, of Alelbourne. Airs and Aliss Litchfield arrived from Wellington yesterday, and are staying at Warner s. Air and Airs A. E. Pigby, of Alelbourne, are on a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Airs G. T. Armitage, of Honolulu, arrived from the north yesterday. Guests at the United Service include Air and Airs Riddell, of Alelbourne. Aliss Tipping, Opnvra. has returned home after spending the winter months at “ Haeremai,” Sumner. A cablegram from Sydney states that a representative committee of women has been formed to organise a women’s testimonial to Lady Davidson prior to her departure for England on October 24. The Beckenham Nursing Division of the St John Ambulance Brigade met on Tuesday evening. Airs Al. Cordy, lady superintendent, being in charge. Aliss F. L. Cooper, of the district staff, put the competition squad through first aid and improvising test. The other members practised home nursing bandaging. The Christchurch Ladies’ Amateur Swimming Club held its annual meeting on Thursday evening. There was a good attendance of members. Airs Fearer, on behalf of the club, presented the captain, Airs AI. Brown, with a gold pencil in appreciation of her services. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the club’s secretary, treasurer, auditor and centre delegate.

A pleasant afternoon was spent on Thursday last at the residence of Airs president of the Cashmere Hills auxiliary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. An apology for absence was received from Airs A. AV. Andrew, secretary of the branch. The collectors for Cashmere Hills are Alesdames Atkinson, Unwood, Bake well, Baumber, Prudhoe, Alisses M’Alillan, Bennett, Fox, Hogg, Burnett, Forman, Alitchell and Atkinson. Through the energy of these ladies the sum of £43 7s 4d has been handed over to the society.
