BRINGS FAMOUS STEINWAY SOUTH. Owing to the precarious weather cog> ditionr prevailing in the South Island, Mr Skalski did not anticipate bringing a valuable instrument from Welling ton, and-relied upon a small Sfceinwa/ to fulfil his requirements in Christchurch. The cordial and whole-hearted enthusiasm which met ms opening recital at the Choral Hall on Tuesday last convinced him that floods or no floods, the people of Christchurch were entitled to hear his biggest works on the magnificent thousand guinea Concert Grand Steinway, which thrilled hun dreds of people at the Town Hall in Wellington during the four recitals given there. rhe Stein way ip question, which arrived this morning in Christchurch, and upon which Mr Skalski will play during his recitals here, was especially selected for Rachmaninoff, who contemplated coming to the Dominion this year. However, other arrangements were made for him, and discovering that Mr Skalski was undertaking the tout, Messrs Steinway, of New York cabled their desire that he would use the instrument. To-night’s audience will have the pleasure of hearing Mr Skalski on the famous Steinway.
