THE MAILS.

FEW PLACES ISOLATED. The only places in the Christchurch Postal District that are still isolated as far as mails are concerned are Avoca and Cass on the Midland railMails have been received from Kaikoura by the s.s. Wakatu which arrived yesterday and an outward mail is due to leave to-day. In North Canterbury mails were do livered to-day as far as Cheviot, Hanmer Springs and Waiau. The West Coast mails are being taken via Wellington and Westport, and the Leeston and Southbridge mails via Dunsandel. No interruption has occurred on the Little River and Metliven lines. The Canterbury Progress League is working in conjunction with the Postal Department in carrying the mails between Greta Cutting and Cheviot.
