Mr Walter Fennell, of Hawera, a pupil of Miss Reilly, has been awarded an Exhibition as the result of his examination in singing by the Associated Board R..A.M. and R.C.M. last yeur. This Exhibition is tenable at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and will entitle Mr Fennell to not less than two years’ free tuition in two or three subjects, at the Academy—a complete course to a standard commensurate with his undoubted ability. One of these Exhibitions is awarded annually in New Zealand to a candidate who is considered by the examiner to show exceptional musical promise. It is not governed by the grade of examination lor which the candidate entered, nor necessarily by the marks gained. Sometimes the examiner has been able to give a special recommendation to two candidates, and in that case both have received Exhibitions. About twenty candidates have been sent to London from New Zealand since these Exhibitions- were first offered.
