BOXING.
VERCOE BEATS BARNES. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, May 5. Billy Barnes, the crack Petone featherweight, was defeated by P. Vercoe, of Blenheim, last night, in six rounds. Barnes led on points till the last round, when Vercoe connected Avith a right uppercut and had the visitor at his mercy. Barnes’s seconds threw in the towel, amid intense excitement.
