MR MASSEY’S PROMISES.
GOOD JOKE AT OAMARU. • Special to the “ Star.”) OAMARU, April 27. Mr Massey continued his promises of good things for the people of New Zealand at a lunch hour meeting at Pukeuri to-day. After giving the school eliildren the customary half-holiday, Mr Massey addressed the gat liering in the hall. Dealing with finance. he said the finances of the country as a whole were better now' than at any time during the past twenty rears. He said he proposed to ask Parliament to remove the duty on tea altogether ; to reduce taxation on companies ; to try and increase the w r ages of Civil servants; to complete unfinished railways as soon as possible ; to lend 95 per cent of the actual value of a house and section for dwellings; and To advance up to £3OOO to settlers, instead of £2OOO as at present. The Liberals of the electorate are enjoying the .joke, and, like Oliver Tiyist, are inclined to ask for more.
