The local players fought the last game stubbornly in’the endeavour to save it. Deuce was ’called eight times. The second set sea-sawed until the fourteenth game, when NewSouth Wales carried off the honours The New Zealanders went, to pieces in I lie third set under the truly brilliant form of Clem eager. Wallace, though unable to keep up tables by his cool, measured placements in the second set. Maintaining an excellent length he succeeded in curbing his persistent opponent. In the following set he secured a tine victory. France was unfortunate to meet Baker at the top of his form. The latter had lately been very erratic, but to-day was unable to go wrong. He had (he energetic New Zealander chasing all over the court. Robson’s mature experience enabled him :<» secure a narrow victory over Huthnance, who is making his debut in representative tennis. He is a local player full <•(* promise, hut is lacking in the polish of a finished expert. He imparts considerable pace into his services and returns and should develop into a champion. Following are the results:— Singles.—Wallace beat Dive, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3; Baker beat France, 6-1, 6 3; Robson beat Huthnance, 7-5, 7- r 5Doubles.—Clemenger and’ Kirkpatrick h—f ,-inri Franca. 2-6. S-C. 6-3.
