HO> [ E-A XDuHOME MATCHES. The annual home-and-home rifle matches was fired on Saturday la»st. '1 he conditions were twelve men per team, ranges 300, 500 and 600 yards, with seven shots at each range. Previous to laat. year these matches were crnfined to the four centres, but last year it was decided to open them to the twelve military districts of the Dominion, when seven of these entered teams. 'Jims year was the fourth ocoanion on which the matches had been fired, the previous contests resulting as follows; Auckland 1147, Wellington 1079, Canterbury 1039 Otago 1008; 1921. Canterbury 1136. Wellington 115, Auckland 1079. Otago 1072. Iu 1922 Canterbury were again sucooasful with the line score of 1135. an average of just over 94f per man- The be«t individual total was put up by Baflemau L. O. Pimm, of the Christchurch Club, who scored it brilliant 108. the next being President P. Palmer. of the Hr-wera Club, who set the main for his team with 101. Centuries were scored by F. The scores of the teams were a* follow s :—Canterbury (Kaiapoi range), 3135; Rangitikei-Mnnnwatu (Bulla range), 1121 ; Wellington (Trontirnm range), 1117; Taranaki (Bulls range) 1114; Hawke’s Bay (Hastings range). 1088: Auckland (Penrose range), 1084; Marlborough (Blenheim range), 1014.

East Saturday Canterbury fired on the Kniapoi range, and the conditions were not easy. The light was dull ami the targets being rather of a dark colour made sighting very difficult, and the wind was all round, the “ globe.’’ starting with north-east then changing to south-west and finishing with a gusty nor’-wester. At 300 yards F. Richards (ICuiapoi) was top scorer with 33. Tie was followed by Logan, Harris, Humphries and Pimm with 32 each. At 500 yards some good shooting was done, there being no lesH thau four 34’s. bv Humphries. Harris, Piper and Pimm, while Richards kept liis end up with 33. On going back t 6 600 yards the . wind had gone round to nor’-west, which is si rear fish-tail wind on the Kaiapoi range, and some very promising totals began to dwindle. Pimm 33, Reynolds 33 and Edwards 31 were the only ones to reach the thirty mark- 'Hie (oral score averages a. little over 90 er man, which is good under the conditions. F. Richards was elected captain of the team, and Captain Stark, of Kaiapoi. was rang© officer. J. Timbre 11, secretary of the Canterbury R-ifle Association. was in charge of the score cards, and Major Oakes was present as president of the Canterbury Association. Major Oakes gave a special prize tor the top scorer, which was won by L. thanked for supplying afternoon tea, which was very much appreciated by all present. The following were the .scores : CANTERBURY.

HAWKE’S BAY. The Hawke’s Bay team fired in goo l weather, and the shooting was brilliant. The only difficulty was at 600yds, when the windage varied from Bdeg to 15deg. Maurice Connor, the crack Okawa club’s colt, put up a record for the range. 101 out of 105. but this was short lived, as Captain Xeilson. a crack shot of the Dominion, put on 102. The following were the scores:—

Major Oakes or Mr J. Timbrell. secretary of the association, will hi 1 pleased to receive donations towards the fund. It is rumoured that J. Timbrell is leaving Christchurch in the. near future for the West Coast. Timbrell 1 is one of our most enthusiastic shots, and what is our loss will be the Coast’s gain.
