FEWER TRAINS.

THE SOUTHERN SERVICE. ONLY ONE EXPRESS DAILY. (Per Press Association’.) DUNEDIN, April 10. After communication with Wellington the local railway authorities announce that, commencing on Monday next, there will be only -one express train daily north and south. The 8 o’clock mail train to Christchurch and the 8.30 to Invercargill will run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and the Invercargill-Ciiristchurch train will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The authorities say there is not sufficient traffic to warrant running two trains even three days a week, and cheap fares could not produce sufficient business for the railways while hotel costs remain high.
