“PLAYGROUND OF SOUTH ISLAND.”

PROSPECTS OF WEST COAST.

MR JULIAN GRANDE’S REPLY. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, April 10. The exception taken by Mr T. E. Y. Seddon at Christchurch to Mr Julian Grande’s criticism that the West Coast was the most depressing, neglected, dirty-looking place he had seen in New Zealand, Mr Grande states that he had no intention to belittle tho Coast, the object- of his comment being to arouse the inhabitants to the possibilities in the beautiful surroundings. “ The Coast has a beauty of its own.” said Mr Grand©. “ No doubt the Arthur’s Pass tunnel will bring the Coast into touch with the rest of New Zealand and cause improvements in houses and accommodation houses.” All that was wanted was a- few good hotels. There was no reason why the Coast should not become the playground of the South Island.
