ARBITRATION ACT.
A WEAKNESS DISCOVERED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND. April 10. A weakness in the Arbitration Act was mentioned in the Arbitration Court when an application to add par ties to the Grocers’ Assistants’ award was under consideration. Representatives of the union said that while negotiations for the present award were in £>■ ogress, a certain business changed hands, with the result that the new owner was not bound by the award. Mr Justice Frazer said that if a business changed hands in the course of the currency of an award, and the former owner was a party, the new owner would automatically come under *he provisions of the award, but in the case mentioned, the subsequent owner would escape until an application was made to add him. “ That is the weakness in the Act,” said his Honor. “1 am afraid that we cannot cure it.” As an after thought he added : “ You have not missed him this time.” “No.” replied the representative, “ he is the first on the list.”
