BORAH’S PROPOSAL WITHDRAWN.

By Telegraph—Frees Association—Copyright Australian and N.Z Cable Association. (Received December 30, 10.55 a.m ) WASHINGTON, December 29.

Senator Borah has announced the withdrawal of his proposal for an economic conference following Senator Lodge’s statement, that its adoption would be harmul to the Administration's efforts to secure an adjustment of European affairs.

Senator Johnson bitterly and sarcastically attacked Senator Borah, who onto was liis closest fellow opponent against Wilsonian policies. Senator Johnson declared that Senator Borah’s proposal for an economic conference was in the interests of international bankers. He would rather see the United States in the League of Nations than in such a conference. “ t am against the conference,” he said. “ because it will embroil us in Europe’s controversies, and fmaflv make the United States part of the European system. I am against it with either reservations or amendments,, for J. am unable to conceive erfner an amendment or reservation which would avert possible injurious consequences. I decline to enter Europe’s maelstrom without definite cogent reasons, and upon the mere arrogation of superior charity, benevolence, and altruism by those who would take us in.”
