I’HRISTOHURCH CENTRE. DOUBLES TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD. A meeting of delegatee to the Christchurch Bowling 1 Centre was held last evening. Mr E. C. Chegwin presiding. The secretary stated that up to the present the sum of £l7 Gs 6d hail been reeeiv. ed iu connection with the Sunny aide Mental Hospital Christmas Cheer fund, an i it, 19 19*», including a cheque for £5 ss, from .Ur W. li. M Douga 11. for the fund in connection with the entertainment of the Queensland bowlers. The chairman said that, as it had lieeu decided to abandon the rink tournament, it was. necessary for the meeting to decide whether they should hold a pairs tournu ment should be held. In seconding the motion, Mr J. B. Colville sahl that at the present moment sixtypairs could be guaranteed for the tournanien£y and it would be held at a time when the ♦fieens were in the best of condition Similar tournaments were held at Christman at Invercargill, Tiinaru and the other three main centres, and he could not understand why Christchurch had not followed suit, before. Replying to a question by Mr Spiller, the chairman said he understood that many of those who had entered for the rink tournament would be. prepared to let their names stand for the pairs. The secretary <Mr E. W. Wade) said that twerjLv-seven entries had been received for tlfe rfnk tournament It. had been decided previously that, should tho entries not, amount to thirty-six. the rink tournament should be abandoned. The position was that he was holding all the entries except one from Waimate, which he had returned. One or two others had spoken to him in connection with their entries. He thought that it would be better for him to write to the entrants, asking them if they were prepared to play in the pnir* tournament. >Tr Spiller said that his object in asking questions was simply to find out what, the position was. His club •'Sydenham) was in favour of n pairs tournament. The motion was carried, ami it. was decided to fix the entry fee at 10s per playev, and to hold the -tournament on Saturday. December 30. Mondav. January 1. and Tuesday. January 2, entries to bo received up to' 5 p.rn. on Wednesday. The chairman expressed the hope that a« many bowlers as possible would be present at the civic reception to be given to the Queensland bowlers on Saturday. QUEENSLAND v. OH RTBTCHTTRCH CENTRE. (Pei? Prf.ss Association.) WELLINGTON, December 21. The Queensland bowlers have brought their Wellington season to a close. They defeated Thorndon, Johnsonville and TChan.lallnh on the Thorndon green by 66 to 57. Another section met Lyall Bay. Seatoun and Victoria, and lost by 15 to 70. They left by the ferry boat to-night for Christchurch and Dunedin.
