Major Rassam, secretary of the Imperial Ex-service League, stat.es that five or mx men visit him daily seeking work or assistance There are roughly ,*3OO ex-service men stranded in Sydney. The bulk have had no previous experience. A number were sent out by the fVversens Settlement Branch of the British Legion. of which Earl Haig is supreme head Major Bassam instancing individual cases of hardship mentions Major Kendrick, of the Royal Engineers, with several distinctions in the army and navy and who was second akfe-de-camn to Lord Jollicoc at the battle of Jut land, ami whose rounds in that engagement compelled his retirement from the navy. Although Major Kendrick holds diplomas in median icol. marine and mining engineering, he is unable to obtain employment in Australia.
