Believing that tho recent- elections showed nation-wide dissatisfaction with the methods of the present political leaders, Senator La r’ollette called a meeting of progressives for the purpose of initiating a minor definite bloc in the next Congress. Thirteen Senators and twenty-one members of tho House attended. YYlule disavowing any intention to initiate a third party, resolutions were presented lor the organisation of a bipartisan bloc in both House and Senate, with sub-committees to work in framing legislation. It- was announced that the bloc was organised and pledged to drive special privilege out of Gorernmenh and restore it to the people and the nation. A wide campaign will be started for the abolition of the electoral college, with open and direct primaries, and the enactment of a Corrupt Practices Act. The progressives also seek reform?- regarding agriculture. labour, railways, shipping, natural resources and taxation.
