GENERAL ELECTION.

AVON. Mr G. YV. Russell will speak to-night as follows : 7 o’clock—Comer of Harrow and Bordesley Streets. 8 o’clock—Corner of Armagh and Rolleston Streets. At Lin wood last night the Hon G. YY r . Russell referred to certain reports that were being circulated that he was prepared to support Mr Holland on a no-confidence motion. He gave these a most emphatic denial. He was utterly opposed to tli© policy cf the Political Labour Party. It did not represent the vast majority of the workers. It had ! only ten per c**nt of the House and he ! felt confident it would have no more—- : perhaps less—in the coining Parliai ment. He would net vote for any norenfidenee motion moved by Mr Holland. It Mr YYilford moved such a. motion and Mr Holland came into the lobby to support it, he (Mr Russell) would certainly not rush over to support Mr Massey, neither would Mr Massey run out of his lobbv and vote ! with Mr Wilford. if be found Mr Holland came into it to support the Reform Government, Mr D. G. Sullivan addressed a well attended meeting of the electors at the corner of Retreat Road and Patten Street last evening. The Rev Clyde Carr presided. At the oi the address Mr Sullivan answered a number of questions relating to the need for a State Bank and was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks anconfidence. Later Mr Sullivan addre.sbed a meeting of about five hundred electors at the corner of Tuam Street and Matheson’s Road. He repudiated the statement that the Labour Party stood for Soviet rule, or that it would confiscate anybody’s property. That k t ud of stuff was put out lor the purpose of misleading and scaring th© electors, and was not true. At tho conclusion of the address the audience cheered Mr Sullivan, and also gave cheers for Mr Carr. Mr Sullivan vas accorded a unanimous vote o« thanks and confidence. Llie Hon G. Y\ . Russell, Liberal candidate, addressed the electors last evening at Stapleton’s Road and Randan Street and the junction of Travers and Armagh Streets. Both meetings weiv largely attended. The speaker briefly reviewed the items of his platform, making reference to tho increasing taxation created by the Reform Party and the Liberal Party’s avowed intention of opposing tho centralisation oi Government Departments. lie advocated a big industrial policy to open up tho wonderful resources of the Dominion, which would assist the bona fide worker to secure a full share of prosperity. After answering a number of questions Mr Russell was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and confidence. RICCARTON. Mr J. A. M’Cullough, Labour Candidate for Riccarton, addressed a well attended meeting in the Social Hall, Islington on Thursday evening. Many of the speakers points were applauded and on the motion of Mr A. Dann, seconded by Mr YY‘. Uren, a yote of thanks was accorded the speaker by acclamation. A similar compliment to the chairman, Mr Morgan Evans, concluded the meeting.

CHRISTOH URCH NOR TH. Mr J. K. Archer, Labour Candidate, addressed a meeting of about fifty electors last evening at the corner of Brett’s Road and Tunes Road The candidate received an attentive hearing, and no questions were asked. Mr Archer also addressed a meeting at the corner of Madras and Dean Streets. Mr J. rshei’wood presided and there were about seventy electors present. Mr Archer received an attentive hearing, answering several questions, and was accorded a unanimous vote of thanks and confidence. KAIAPOI. Air R. D. Martin addressed a meeting at Aylesbury School last evening and also addressed a largely attended meeting at the Halkett School. Air M YYilson presiding. At the close of the meeting Air Alartin was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Air David. Jones addressed the electors at Travis Street. Burwood, on 1 hursday evening, and also in the Shirley schoolroom. Mr H. Patterson occupied the choir. A vote of thanks ivas carried on the motion of Mr Chaiies Walters. Mr Jones addressed t, ‘ ar ge meeting at Southbrook on rliday evening. Mr A. M’lntosh occupied the chair. Mr B. D’Auvergne moved a vote of thanks which was seconded by Mr R. Fraser and carried. CHRISTCHURCH HAST. Mr W. R. Devereux, Reform candidate for Christchurch East, addressed the electors last night at the corner or Charles and Grafton Streets. There large attendance and at the close of the address the candidate was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr H. T Armstrong will speak on Monday at the corner of Grafton Street and Charles Street, with Air R Sempie, at 7.15 p.m., and at the corner o, lusher and Norwood Streets, Beckenham, at 8.15 p.m. Mr R. Semple will speak at Sydenham Park this evening with Messrs E. J. Howard and H. T. Armstrong.

INVERCARGILL. (Special to the “ Star.”) INY ERCARGIIL, December 2. Tho Hen J. A. Hanan addressed :t hug© meeting in the Municipal Theatre fi.st night. Tho proceedings opened with the National Anthem. Mr Hanan gave an able and stirring address and received a great ovation, the audience rising and singing, “ ForHe’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” It was the greatest political meeting held locally for many years.
