ADDINGTON NOTES. _\ light rain was falling when train—ing commenced at Addington this mnrning, but it did not afiect the tray]: very much til] towards the end of the morning’s work. A large numbvr of horses got through useful tasks. and there was a number of spectntors in addition to the trainers. to watch tho training work. Onyx, who looks bright and well, «mm a sound two miles in most. pleasing style. She was not, put tn her best spend and was accompanied by Elite over the last mile It was a satisfactory performance and the Cup mare gained fresh friends thrnugh her display Vila. without the straps. was given a little over half-pace work and seemed anxious to go faster The Waimateowned and trained pacer is very well. Nighborn trotted a mile and a half at a solid speed and got through his task in rare style. He is well at present. and if the ground is not too hard on race day he should be seen to advantageThixendale and Acton worked togather over a mile and a _l‘lalf. . 'lllley were not. on a record brenkmg ““5510“; but both horses paced wall.

Earl Derby was sent a mile and a quarter, but the trotter makes a noi9e and is not likely to be seen to advantage over a journey. Joyful, in saddle, was given useful work at the trotting gait, although he will be raced in the mile saddle events for pacers. He was sent along fast in patches and trotted really well. Countryman, who now looks a much improved pacer, was given a few sprints aud then worked out nearly a mile, pacing confidently and soundly. H. G-askell drove Marietta a mile and a half, which she did in good time, especially the first mile, but she showed no improvement in her gait.

Don Wild was given n few sprints and then went nearly a mile, but not at top speed. His work outs for this meeting so far have not been of an impressive character. Coil and Stormy were associated oyer a mile and a half. At the end of half a. mile Stormy broke badly and lost ground. Once he struck his gait again lie quickly caught his companion and they went on together till about a hundred yards from the winning post, where Stormy again broke. Fven with the two mistakes it was a serviceable work out. Stormy is troubled with corns and this was probably the cause of his. breaking. First Fashion, who looks very well, went nearly two miles at about threequarter speed, trotting well and without anv mistake. The trotters Peter the First (saddle) and Mushroom (in harness) worked out together about a mile and n half. Ihe saddle horse was seen to special advantage. but Mushroom was much below his best form, and he seemed sore in front. The fine trotter Xolson Bell trotted in excellent style over several circuits, at about three-quarter speed. When ho is properly furnished he should take high rank in the trotters’ class. Thea worked out about a mile, but the ex-Southland mare does not seen to ho at her best. She failed to put anv energy into her work and the time for the work out was slow. Paul Dufault, looking very well, was restricted to a lew sprints and some other useful work. The little pacer was anxious to increase the pace when asked to go slow. He was worked without hopples. T,ndv Joan covered a mile without the hopples with ease, in good time, and looks as though she is improving each time she is sent fast..

Hayseed was responsible for a useful mile and a half in harness. He looks big and well and paced better than ui his effort earlier in the week. All eyes were turned on Box Seat when he came on the track, his joint owners being interested spectators. After a few “ warm ups ” he set off from the two mile post, but wentaway at n tangle and was pulled up. When he eventually got going he did not pace at all evenly and looked ready to go to a break at any moment. Going round the turns he almost left his feet, but was steadied. Over the last quarter Bryce was driving him hard and there did not seem much response He finished up his task in slow time and could not have gained any admirers for his Cup chance by the performance. Lear Dillon, without the hopples, followed behind Box Seat, but he broke and was pulled up. When he got going again he paced soundly over a mile and a quarter. Wild Briar does not look as bright as usual and his performance over nearly a mile and a half was of a laboured character. General Link and the trotter Marvin Junior did a couple of sprints together and then the latter went two miles, with his owner in the sulky, at a fair speed. He trotted without any mistakes. Whispering Willie, who is at his best, set out for a two mile journey. He went the first half by himself and was then .joined by General Link. The trotter kept his mate busy till the back stretch was readied, when General Link drew level and just headed the. trotter to the straight. Once in line for home Whispering Willie again went to the front and had the measure of his companion at the end. On this performance General Link’s chance of success in the Cup is discounted. Whispering Willie’s work out was a really good one, but he had a. track to his liking. Ooronel (in saddle) and Star Queen (in harness! worked out a. mile and a furlong and then the latter went on for two more furlongs. Star Queen looks very well. Locnnda Dillon, driven by B. Jarden. gave a good deal of trouble at the post, and broke a hopple, necessitating some delay before be went away for a mile and a quarter. As usual, he went the first quarter very fast, but slowed up a good deal towards the end. The time was not fast, hut it was a useful workout under the conditions. Bryce’s new arrival. Claude Alto, broke a few times in the early stages of a mile and a half go, but when he settled down he trotted in good style.
