BUY LAKE COLERIDGE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The City Council is deserving of the thanks of the whole community for the manner in winch it is endeavouring to protect the interests of electrical consumers by fighting the Government’s proposals to increase the charges to the council for electrical current. In adopting a resolution asking the Government to state a price for the Lake Coleridge plant as it stands, the council took a big step, but it gave an evidence of its sincerity in the matter. Canterbury has suffered for many years at the hands of the Government, and the sonner we return to a condition of provincial governments controlling such utilities as hydroelectricity. the better it will be for all concerned. I feel sure the council’s action is hacked up by an overwhelming majority of the ratepayers, and if the Government is not disposed to either sell Coleridge or treat Canter bury fairly, the council should go righ;. aheat? with its Waimakariri scheme.— I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
