BREEZE AT RUGBY UNION COUNCIL MEETING.

WELLINGTON, October 10 There was a lively discussion at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night with reference t the chairman's (Mr Slade's) action in arranging the recent visit of a Wellington team to Auckland, when the northerners won by 54 points to nil. The chairman s action was endorsed, but a. motion was passed to the effect that in tutu*© matters of the kind steps he taken to call the committee together. The chairman regarded the motion as a slight on himself and left the chair. Later he resumed the chair, hut stated his intention of resigning. Benzine thieves are operating in the Hamilton district, states a correspondent of the Auckland '‘ Herald/’ During an entertainment at Te Rapa on Thursday evening they paid a. visit to several motor-cars. However, they tried the thefts once too often, and finally had to beat a hurried retreat, leaving their paraphernalia in full working operation attached to one car- The gear shows that the thieves are quite modern in the matter of appliances. The benzine is extracted through a siphon about three feet long, with a pump attached, being pumped from the car tank into a kerosene tin. The latter is covered with sacking to obscure I the ordinary brightness of the receptacle. In the een’re of the tube there !ii a tap, which is operated to stop the flow when the tin is full.
