(Special to the “ Star.”) A KARO A. We are having another good spell of fine -weather. Lambing now is nearly completed and should result in some very good percentages. Dairy farmers, are however very anxious for rain as there is very little growth, and some good downpours are badly needed, especially for the cocksfoot paddocks, now beinjr closed up. In the garden 6 and orchards there is a. wealth of blossom, giving, promise of heavy yields of fruit. A meeting of the District Hign School Committee was held on Thursday ; present-—Messrs F. R. E. Davis fchairman), W. Pool. J. Manson, C. F. O- Williamson and T. M’Kenzie. Correspondence was read from the North Canterbury Board of Education regarding the recent inquiry, and also stating that owing to illness Miss Cbeyne Fannie would be unable to return until September 21, A vote was forwarded from the Department or Health regarding the visit of a nurse i.i connection with dental work in the school. An offer from Mr Foston to give a lecture entitled “At the Front ” was accepted with thanks. It was decided to call the attention of the board to the unsatisfactory condition caused by the school being held in different buildings, and to ask that accommodation should be added to the present school building for the .t»econdary department. Arrangements were made for erecting a fence around the school garden. The head master reported that the attendance for the past month was :—Primary, roll number 150. average attendance 132; secondary. roll number 23. average attendance 23. On Fridav evening in the Technical School buildings the Rev A. H. Julius gave an interesting lecture on the Reinhardt Exploration in Australia, the fate of which has never been satisfactorily cleared up. The address, which was illustrated by maps, was listened to In- a large audience and at the oondnsion a. hearty vote of thanks was accorded $o the lecturer.

GREENPARK Arrangements are well in hand for the spinsters* first annua] ball. A very strong committee with Misses L Fleet and Dutton are working hard to make the function a success.
