The recent death of Mr William Hearn, at the age of seventy-two years, at Wellington, removes one'of the. best known oarsmen ,in the history of Wellington rowing. Prior to the ’nineties he was professional champion of New Zealand on several occasions, and was the mainstay of the celebrated Dolly Varden crew. A very enjoyable social and dance was given by members of the PapaJ.ua branch of the Labour Party as a furtherance of Air J. A. M'On I lough’s ejection campaign in the Orange Hall, Hornby, on Thursday evening, the hail being filled to its utmost capacity. A varied musical programme was well received. and the dancing which followed continued to a late hour. ATr Lodge very capably fulfilled the duties of M.C.
