A NEW ZEALAND CONTINGENT. DEFENCE DEPARTMENT ACTIVE. (Special to the "Star.”) WELLINGTON. September 24. Tlie Prime Minister informed a representative of the ‘-Star’' today that ho had heard of no further important development in the Near East situation, and expected little lor a few days. He definitely denied a rumour current in Wellington that Cabinet had decided on sending .1 contingent. Probably the rumour arose through the activity of the Defence Department, which must be prepared for eventualities, and Has certain s' been busy during the past week. The Minister bf Defence has stated that if men are required for the contingent those who have registered will ho informed by newspaper advertisement where they should report for medical exa initiation.
