Coegrave lias informed Parliament that compensation for the pfoperfcy damaged since the, truce nmounts to between £20,000,000 and £30.000.000 Parliament has adopted a resolution accepting the principle that local authorities should be responsible for compensation for damage done from a future undefined date. All the telegraph lines. telephone wires and railway lines to Kerry have •’.cen destroyed by the irregulars, who have concentrated most of their forces in the mountains and are carrying on operations with renewed activity. Free State troops are hampered bv broken bridges and barricaded roads and are constantly being ambushed from the mountain tops. A strong force is required to dislodge the irregulars. The plight of the civil population is serious and brigandage is rampant. Hundreds of families are worklesis and are on the verge of starvation.
