COCKATOO ISLAND. PROFITS FOR THE YEAR. (Received September 23. 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 23. The balance-sheet for Cockatoo Island for the past twelve months shows a profit of £326. The management regards the small profit as particularly commendable considering that the period was the worst experienced in eh ip-repairing and docking. (Received September 23, 11.15 a.m.) AUSTRALIAN WHEAT. EARNINGS OF BOARD. MELBOURNE, September 23. The chairman of the Wheat-growers' Corporation stated that the total sales to date of wheat in the pool were 29,793,000 bushels at 5s 4gd. The board earned £65,000 from the chartering commission, the nett return to growers being 4s id a bushel. OTHER EXCHANGES. Sales on Change.—Union Bank of Australia, £l3 3s. AUCKLAND, September 23. DUNEDIN. September 23. Sales on ’Change.—Bank of New Zealand, 555; Government 1938 Bonds, £97. POULTRY MARKET. The Canterbury Co-op. Poultry Producers, Ltd., report a good entry of poultry to-day. There was a keen demand fo r all classes of quality birds. Table ens realised 6s 6d to 15s; hens, 3s fid to Jls; ducks, 6s to 14s; pullets, 5s 6d to 129 fid: geese. 7s .to 9s; turkeys, 11s 6a to 33s fid, all r.er pair. THE EGG MARKET. Very heavy supplies of eggs are coming forward. There is a good demand for the first-grade article, though country store eggs are cutting the price. Canterbury Co-op. Poultry Producers, Ltd., first grades are Is 3d. ducks Is 2d, seconds Is Id per dozen. During the last, four weeks this average has been maintained.
