BALL AT ASHLEY.

The bachelors and spinsters of the Ashley district held their second annual ball in the local schoolroom on Friday night. Arrangements were left in the hands of a strong committee, whose efforts left not much to be desired. IT© ballroom was tastefully decorated with vari-c6loured streamers, suspended from the centre in a canopy through which the lamps cast- a diffused light upon the dancers. Silhouettes of black cats and red moons arranged round the walls lent quite a unique effect to the general scheme. A dainty supper was served irx.au adjoining roomy on tables artistically decorated witl( spring flowers. About fifty couples participated in the grand march. Messrs T. Harris and L. Hughes officiated as A1.0.s and spirited music was supplied by lins Row byes and Air Williams, extras being played by Alisses Guy, Steel. Schmidt, Airs Petrie and Air Whitham.
