A NIGHT VISITOR.
UNION SECRETARY IN TROUBLE. CHARGE OF TRESPASS. (Per Pbem Aesociatioh > WBTJ.TNGTON, June 3. Charles Grayndler, secretary of the Tserv Zealand branch of the Australian Workers’ Union, appeared at the Magistrate’s Court charged with trespassing on the premises occupied by his wife during the currency of a separation order. Tho wife gave evidence that Grayndler came to the house late at night and abused her. Ho told her she mrifit got out as he wanted to sell the house. She and the children were terrified by his conduct. She sent for the police who removed Grayndler, but he returned later and was again abusive. Tho police evidence that Grayndler was under the influence of liquor. Defendant said there had been three separation orders, but his wife and he had been reconciled on former occasions. He went to the house to see of the Court could prevent him seeing his children. He denied returning to the house, after he had left with the police. After further evidence the Magistrate said he 'was convinced that Grayndler went to the house to see if his wife would take him in, and so liberate him from the order. A fine of £5 in default three months’ imprisonment was imposed. Defendant: “T won’t pay-it.” The Magistrate : “ Then take it out.” Defendant: “ You won’t give a man a chance to explain t-o the Court.” The Magistrate: 11 Don’t you be impudent. or T will send you to gaol for seven days.”
