The Sumner Borough is to be included in Dr Trubv King’s health campaign, and with the. sanction of Dr Eleanor Baker, the. Education Department’s mrdical officer, Aliss Patterson will visit- the Sumner School on June 12 and address the upper standards on the way to preserve good health. Owing to th-e heavy strain of +ho campaign in the south. Dr Tin by King has secured the valuable services of Miss Patterson. who is addressing the schools with great success. On the following Friday, Dr Truby King will himself lecture- in the Town ITall. where, with the aid of lantern slides, ho will speak to all interested on the great problem of “ How to Keep Well.*’ ON THE ESTUARY. For about a fortnight now the bird life on the estuary has changed in a very marked degree. Regular observers expected, in their daily routine, to see the familiar sight of the blue herons near the causeway and the occasional shag and sea gull. Recently, however, sea birds have been congregating in hundreds about the waters of Redcliffs. Tn such large numbers they are the conspicuous ©bi-ccts of the water fronts Floating lazily oil the outgoing tide, or quietly assembled on some exposed bank nt low water, they are objects of unusual, interest with a mission as yet not accounted for. PERSONAL. Mrs F. AY. Pidgeon, of Monek’s Spur, was at home on Tuesday to a number of ladies from Redcliffs who are interested in the forthcoming sale of work on June 10. A pleasant afternoon was spent, and many details of the arrangements were completed. LADIES’ RIFLE CLUB. The members of the Sumner-Red-cliffs Ladies’ Miniature Riffy Club sro holding regular weekly practice in the tramway shed. Good progress is reported. The gold button which is to bo competed for this year instead of the rifle brooch, is to be designed as a target and will bo ready next week. One or two impending matches are serving as -a healthy stimulus to the members and as good coaching is always available the club should give a good account of itself before the season terminates. BOROUGH CONTESTS. The inter-borough contests have, so far, from this end. been managed by a temporary committee. In order to put the matter on a more business footing, the various local clubs have been circularised and asked to forward a representative to a meeting to be held uii June 21. This meeting will then constitute the Sumner Borough Sports Association, and will take charge of Mv> contest arranged. As the present t ; rne Air. H. C. -Johns, of “Dalkeith,” Bury Street, is the acting secret ary. SUMNER SCOUTS Word has been received that the hulk, Annie S. Hill, has been purchased and that preparations are being made for h£r removal to the estuary. During the week-end it is expected that a thorough inspection of possible moorings will be made hv representatives of the Christchurch executive, the local committee, and representatives of the local rowing and sailing clubs. The berthing of the vessel at Rede Jiffs is being nntic.ipitted with very keen interest. - - - DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.
