(From Our Correspondent.') CARD MATCHES. The first of the season’s card matches between, the- New Brighton and North Beach Surf Club was held on Saturday evening last in the North Beach Pavilion. There was a, good attendance and a most enjoyable evening was spent. BOROUGH WORK. Some improvement lues been made to the south side of Bowliill Road, at the seaward end. It is hoped that lie Council will “go on with the good work ” as per sample. SCHOOL GROUND. In spite of the unfavourable weather on Saturday last, several members of the school committee and others did good work in clearing the growth of lupins in the North Beach School ground. Mi’ and Mra E. S. Bradbury kindly supplied the workers with afternoon tea. PLANTING. Elderberry trees seem to do well in various parts of New Brighton. Mr M. R. Jackson has planted several on the north side of the reserve and the Esplanade adjoining Jones’ buildings. WATER SUPPLY. The successful trial of pumping from a small sump supplied by four deep wells, in South Brighton, should encourage tlx? Borough Council to arrange i’or a similar supply at North Beach. TAXI. As advertised, Mr R. Davidson of the tea rooms, North Beach, has his car for hire. This should be a great convenience to residents and visitors. ELECTRIC LIGHTING. The City Council, under arrangements with the New Brighton Borough Council and Waimairiri County Council, is extending the lighting on race-course Road to Beach Road and to FI ©min gtoiL Avenue and Fine wood Avenue. PERSONAL. Mr and .Mrs G. S. Cow per, after n residence at North Beach for some years, have removed to Fonda 1 ton. Mr Kydd, of Wanganui, is spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs J. Pollock, of ’* AY a ratal t,” Osborne Terrace. Mr and Mrs A. T. Woohner, who were the first storekeepers at “ Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” North Beach, and who have been recently residing at Auckland . have gone to England. Air D. M. Wreaths 11, of Swann Street, has gone on a visit to Palmerston North. Mr F. J. Lawrence Scott, of Ralcairn, who has been appointed to the Richmond School, will take up his residence at Jubilee Avenue. Air Scott will be a welcome resident, having already shown a»i interest in North Beach byassisting at past galas. # Hearty congratulations to Air R. Cargeeg, on his appointment as Justice of the Peace. lie has boon a great worker for South Brighton.
