As the time for the execution of Colin Ross, found guilty of murdering Alma; Tirtschke. approaches. a campaign of intimidation against the Crown officials concerned in the ease intensifies. Many threatening letters have been received and one has been delivered to the CVown Prosecutor stating he will die as soon as Ross is hanged. The trial of Colin Campbell Ross excited public feeling in Melbourne, and after a lengthy trial, the verdict of guilty was received with jeers and cheers by great, crowds outside and msido the Court. Ross appealed to the Full Court and the High Court, but the conviction was upheld- The Victorian Cabinet fixed the date of the execution lor Monday next, and refused a petition presented by accused’s council tor postponement pending an appeal to the Privy Council. Mrs Ross, mother of the accused, made a personal appeal to the Attorney-General, but he said the law must take its course.
