A SYDNEY DELEGATION.
BOOSTING THE LEAGUE. , i Messrs L. I>argan and W. J. Kelly, two of the three delegates from the -New South Wales Rugby League who are visiting the Dominion to report on the process of the League code here, arrived in Christchurch Irom the north this morning. From Christchurch Messrs Kelly and Dargan will proceed to the W est Coast, but they expect to be back in Christchurch by Wednesday to meet League players and supporters of the game. Mr R. R. Cray, the third member of the delegation, is still in the North Island, but it is expected that he will be in Christchurch for the meeting on Wednesday. This morning Messrs Kelly and Dargan paid a visit to the Mayor (Dr Thacker, M.P.), who is president of the New Zealand Rugby League, and had i a talk with him regarding the game in j New Zealand. Mr Kelly said that the New South Wales authorities considered there must lx- something wrong with the game in New Zealand, because the last two teams sent over to Australia were very weak. Th© last team had made a very poor showing against New Soutu Wales, and not much better against Queensland. Then New Zealand and Queensland were tried together against i New South Wales, but even the com- ! bined team was not strong enough. The New South Wales League recognised that the visit of a strong team would help the game, and when they returned home they would suggest that coaches should be sent over to New Zealand to assist the players here. This afternoon Messrs Kelly and Dargan were taken for a drive round the city by the Mayor.
