ATHLETICS.

AN EVENINC MEETING. The weekly evening athletic meetings were resumed last night when the Old Boys’ Club, who were in charge of tho arrangeipents. put on three handicap races. Interest was added by the presence of the South African athletes, who, however, did not compete, as was anticipated. Mr 1. Emery, manager of the team, competed in the 75yds handicap race and secured third place. The weather was beautifully fine and there was a large crowd of spectators The following were the results:— 75yds Handicap. First beat —I. Emery (4iyds) 1: J. E'. Howard (6yds) 2; C. Time—lnqin 17seos, Taylor ran a welljudged race and won by three feet. 250yds Handicap—W. H. B. Buckhurst (15yd9> 1; J. Stewart (19yds) 2: 8. H. Truman (16yds) 3. Time—26 ‘2-ssecs. Won by two feet. THE SOUTH AFRICANS. Mr I. E. Emery, manager of the South African team now touring the Dominion has received the following cable from Mr C. Hadley, of Johannesburg, who is managing the tour:— “ Heartiest congratulations to Kinsman and all the others on their most excellent performances. Express pay great appreciation to all the people and committees who are so kindly aiding you; and my sincere regrets at not being present with you,”
