BODY LYING IN BTATE. By Telegraph—Pro*a Association— Australian and N.Z. C’able Association. ROME, January 24. The body of the late Pope is lying in Btate in the Ghapel of the Sacrament, the second on the right when entering St Peter’s. Immense crowds are paying homage, including many peasants. Affecting scenes are witnessed, thousands kneeling on the pavement near th© church praying for the soul of the departed. The public wifi not be allowed in th© chapel but the features of tho dead Pope are plainly seen through the grating. The late Pope is dressed in his ponti ficial robes, the white mitre. Th© body is guarded by the members of the Pope’s Noble Guard. The body, late in the day, was carried to the crypt where it will be buried. Extreme simplicity will characterise the funeral. REQUIEM MASS. A Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass ■will be celebrated at th© Barbadoes Street Cathedral on Friday morning, at ten o’clock. Bishop Brodie will be the celebrant, and the Panegyric will be preached by the Rev Father Cooney, of Lyttelton. All the priests of the diocese will bo present, likewise representatives of the various religious communities engaged in works of edueation and charity throughout the diocese.
