THE GENERAL ELECTION

NEW PARTY ACTIVE, Candidates have been selected by the National Progressive Party to contest the four Christchurch seats at the next general election. Names will be announced shortly. Mr Forbes Eadie. Dominion organiser. said to-day that the response to the membership campaign of the new party had been most encouraging. In the South Island there were now over 12,000 mem hers, and there* was a plethora of candidates offering. It was hoped that the party would be recognised as the official Opposition at the next election. Within the past few days a candidate had been chosen to contest the Hon W. Nosworthy’s seat at Ashburton.
