A HEAVY FINE. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 17. Frank Dawsey, who was discharged yesterday on information under the Customs Act, charging him with smuggling jewellery valued at £7O, again appeared before, the Court to-day, charged with having concealed chitiable goods on board the XVaiotapu. Dawsey had signed a list and failed to declare £7O worth of gold wire brooches, brought with him from America. 'Hie goods were concealed in an overcoat belonging to a member of the steamer’s crew. Accused was fined £IOO, in default three months’ imprisonment.
