The weather was fine at the start, and the wicket good. Frank and Nourse. resuming their unfinished innings, commenced a forcing game. The Australians were bowling well off the wicket, with a cluster of fieldsmen behind, the idea being to keep down the runs. Nourse give a difficult chance off Hendry at 96, and reached the century in 224 minutes Eleven runs later he was caught in the slips. Frank, with his impregnable defence, defied all changes. The bowlers became legaore and tired. Franks’s innings lasted CIS minutes, before being caught at midon. Eight for 450. His hatting was patient and good throughout. In t-lie meantime, Mailey had captured Banckenburg and Marx, and the wicketkeener accounted for Ling. All had a lively time while they lasted. Ryder bowled with excellent turn and speed, and Mailey .kept the batsmen guessing. Tho innings lasted 535 minutes, and the score is the highest made in a test match in Africa. Ninety minutes’ of play remained, but shortly after the Australians commenced, an appeal ngainst bad light was upheld, and rain following, the match was abandoned.
