LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Should the Drainage Board pay rates to the* City Council on its offices in Hereford Street and the pumping station? This question was raised by Mr F. Burgoyne at last night’s meeting of the board. Staples supported Mr Burgoyne's contention, and on the latter’s motion it was decided to obtain legal opinion on the point. The Christchurch Drainage Board met last night; present—Messrs H. J.
