COMMUNITY EFFORT.

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. ABSENCE OF BUSINESS METHODS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 10. In an address to the Chamber of Commerce on Community Effort, Mr Stuart Wilson said that the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce greatly needed development on the lines of America and Canada. All branches or commercial activity should be represented and members drafted into committees to carry out tho work they were best qualified to perform. Concentration of cilort would thus be effected on an invaluable programme which should include the scientific marketing of New Zealand produce. A.t present wo were losing millions sterling per annum owing to tho absence of business methods. In this respect the American City Bureau was prepared to send a thoroughly qualified man to New Zealand to reorganise tho Chambers of Commerce, and the c6st for the four cities would bo about £2OOO. Mr Wilson offered to raise the Wellington quota, and a man from America could begin work here. The Chamber decided to take the sugges tion into consideration. In connection ivith this proposal it is recalled that years ago Mr Seddon told the Chambers of Commerce that they were not doing the work they should be doing. The repeated insistence of New- Zealanders returning from visits to England on the deplorable way our produce is handled, is undoubtedly stirring up a feeling that something must bo done to improve matters,
