SEXUAL OFFENCES.

DRASTIC STEPS NEEDED. (Per Pres* Association.) AUOKLA ND, November 15r “ It is strongly felt regarding some sexual cases that something sever© is necessary, more particularly for tho prelection of young girls,” remarked the foreman of the Grand Jury at the Supreme Court. , “ T feel myself v*ery strongly about * these gross outrages on young chilidren,” replied Air Justice Stringer. “T have had on occasion to avail myself of tho opportunity to order corporal punishment in cases of deliberate outrage. I quite agree that the strongest punishment should he inflated.” The foreman expressed the opinion of the- jury that old men offending against the sexual code should be placed apart and out of harm’s way. “ Yes,” said the Judge, ‘‘there should be a. place in which old men no longer responsible for their actions should he kept in safe custody. I think it is generally recognised that provision of this sort should be made. Tt is not fair to put these men into asylums, yet it is not fairn:o the public to allow them to wander at large. They need an intermediate place, where they could be looked after as children, which they really are in a sense in many cases. T will recommend to the Prisons Board the necessity for such a place.”
