PERTH HANDED TO UNDERWRITERS. (Per Press Association.) GRKYMOCTH. November 16. Au inquiry into the stranding of the | steamer Perth on the Grey bar on j Sunday was held before Mr Meldrum. | vS.M.. and Captains Thurleway and 1 Schutae. ; After hearing -evidence the Court j returned the following verdict:— ** The stranding was due to the Perth being struck by three successive unusually large rollers at the moment of crossing the bar, moving her head northwanl and bringing her into the set cut of tho river to the starboard tending to move her out of tho channel. The captain had taken every precaution to ensure the safety of the vessel and was quite justified in going out in view of tho fact that three ships preceded him. No blame is attachable to any member of tho crew. Tbe captain’s certificate is returned. He is deserving of special commendation for the skilful manner of getting the - row ashore.'’ The local agent has announced that j • he has been instructed bv the Perth’s i | owners to hand h«# to the underj Writers.
