OBITUARY.
E. S. CROSS. The death occurred at Hamilton, on Saturday. November 5, of Mr Edric Stanley Cross, son of Mr W. Cross, of No. 9, Haa-st Street, Linwood. The late Mr Cross, who was thirty-four years of age, was well known in Christchurch, where he resided for many years, and during his lifetime he took i\ prominent part in fire brigade matters. He went to Hamilton three years ago and commenced in business on his own account. He immediately became associated with the Hamilton Fire Brigade, and was appointed secretary, a position he held until his death. His work in this particular connection also extended to Dominion channels. The deceased was senior vice-president of the Accident Society of the United l ire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand, and vice-president of the Auckland District Fire Brigades’ Association. He was always a prominent figure at the annual conferences and demonstrations, and his keen interest in and mature consideration on matters affecting the interests of the brigades as a whole were always recognised. The funeral took place on Sunday, November 6, the cortege being very -lengthy, the Mayor of Hamilton (Mr J. R. Fow), Mr J. A. Young, M.P., members of the Borough Council and the Hamilton Fire Board being present. The deceased was accorded a firemen’s funeral, ■ and the Hamilton Municipal Band and Fire Brigade were in attendance in full ! strength. The Jate Mr Cross, whose j death occurred alter an illness extendI ing over three weeks, left a widow and three children.
