ROUNDING OFF CORNERS.
SUBDIVISION RULES. A question affecting subdivisions was discussed by the City Council last evening. Consent was asked to the laving-out of a new street between Berwick and Westminster Streets. St Albans. Councillor C. W. Horvey moved and Councillor W. H. Winsor seconded, that the By-laws Committee’s report recommending consent, providing the corners were rounded off, should be referred back to the committee. Councillor Winsor said if the corners were to be rounded off to the same radius ns those in the Church Property Trustees’ subdivision in North Richmond and Kensington Avenue there would be some ugly sections and thero would be heavier expense for road upkeep. Councillor Hervev said that the radius proposed was too big. It was intended for the city proper. The Deputy-Mayor (Councillor J. A. Flesher) said that a standard had been set. Councillor Hervey asked if the records could he turned up. Was it on the minutes? The Deputy-Mayor: I have answered your question. Councillor Hervey : I am standing here in the interests of these people. I am not oroing to be “ hull-dosed.” Councillor H. Hunter said ho hoped the committee’s report would be adopted ana that the council would jum-n on any counter-proposal intended to benefit the property owners exclusively. The Deputy-Mayor said that corners in subdivisions had to be rounded in the interests of public safety, and the committee was simple acting in accordance with the council*B own decision. Tho amendment was lost and the report was adopted bv 12 votes to 4.
