MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING.
Messrs Ward and Co.’s Miniature Rifle and Social Club held its annual smoke concert''at the brewery on Tuesday evening, the president (Mr A. S. Duncan) presiding. Among those present were Messrs W. S. Wharton and A. Tongue, president and honorary secretary respectively of the Christchurch Miniature Rifle Association. After the loyal toast had been honoured. Mr R. W. Buchanan proposed the toast of *• The Miniatiire Rifle Association,” and, in responding, Mr Y/harton expressed the association’s appreciation of Messrs Ward and Co.’s generocity in placing at his association’s disposal' the Kilmore Street range, gratuitously. Other toasts honoured were:—“The Firm,” proposed by Mr D. H. Crooks, ana responded to by Mr Iv. Rhand; “ Donors of Frizes,” proposed by INIr A. Dawson; ” Kindred Clubs,” proposed by Mr J. A. Chapman, and responded to by Messrs Peagram (Lyttelton), Burgess (Mechanical Workers), Walker (Cashmere), J. Hawkins (Crown Brewery), IT. Harries (W.M.C.) and J. J. Smith (Sumner); “ The Performers,” proposed by Mr J. Fitzgerald, and responded to by Messrs T. Cooper and E. Crawford. During an interval a 'presentation was made on behalf of the members of the club, by Mr Duncan, to Mr Ij. V. Comerford (vice-president). It took the form of an enlarged framed photograph of the club’s team, which won the senior competition and Beavan Cup. An excellent programme of musical, elocutionary and vocal items was contributed by Messrs P. Cole, Edwards, T. Cooper, E. Crawford, Stewart, D. Wallace, A. B. L. Smith, J. Sprightly, L. S. Coton, Mr Louis Bloy’s Banjo Band, and several banjo solos by Mr Bloy were heartily received. The prizes, presented by Mr Duncan, v ere won as follow: —No. L Handicap, C. Karker 1, P. ITurcomb 2; No. 2 Handicap, E. Ward 1, R. Buchanan 2; No. 3 Handicap, R. Buchanan I, W. Blood 2; No. 4 Handicap, J. Murray 1; Senior Championship, J. Chapman; Junior Championship, W. Blood; Senior Aggregate, F. Sharman 1, J. Murray and J. Chapman 2, C. Brown 3. J. Fitzgerald 1, R. Buchanan 5; Junior Aggregate, W. Blood* 1, O. Cox 2; most possibles, F. Sharman and J. Murray 1; Mr J. A. Shand’s trophy, T. Brown l; Potty Button Competition, J. Fitzgerald and J. Chapman 1, F. Sharman and T. Brown 2. Special prizes presented by Mr j\. Shand were won by F. Sharman, T. Brown, C. Brown, J. Chapman, J. Fitzgerald, J. Murray, B. Aulsebrook, J. Edmonds and R. Buchanan. The sieging of “ Auld Lang Syne ” terminated »■ successful function.
