ARBITRATION ACT.

BILL FOR AMENDMENT. [From Otr Correspondent.] WELLINGTON. October 17. The amendment of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. which the Alinister of Labour proposes to circulate this week, is designed only to cover the difficulty recently experienced over changes in the representation of workers or employers on the Arbitration Court, and to prevent serious delays in future. The main legislation is in a consolidating Bill to he introduced this session. It will probably have some new features, but it is reported that the Government is unlikely to accept the advice of the Farmers’ Union to remove statutory preference to Unionists. This proposal when brought under the Premier’s notice by a farmers’ deputation was met with the suggestion that it is open to any member of the House to move amendments to a Government Bill, and there is no doubt that some private member will take an opportunity to test the feeling of the House on this point.
