MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
'TO-DAY’S CASES. Mr S. E. M’Gar thy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. DRUN KENNESS. Two statutory first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s, in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonment. Percv Edmonds, a second offender, was fined 20s, in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. REMANDED. John Wakefield (Mr C. S- Thomas), a member of the crew of the s-s. Mararoa, was charged that on or about September 4, at Lyttelton, he had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl aged fifteen years and eleven months. On the application of the police accused was remanded until October 7. The Magistrate refused to grant bail until after the preliminary hearing. In reply to a request from Mr Thomas, Chief-Detective M’llveney said that if possible the case would' bo brought on for hearing before October 7. A charge of stealing on September 7 f at Greendale, a sum of £26 4s, the property of Robert Currie, was preferred against Harry Brittciiff, w*ho, on the application of the police, was remanded until October 7. (Before Mi* Wyvern Wilson, S.M.) A TENEMENT CASE. David Gibb (Mr Archer), of Redcliffs. proceeded against Douglas George Kelly (Mr C. S. Thomas) for the possession of a tenement at 81. Disraeli Street, Christchurch, and rent to date. The Magistrate refused to make an order, on the grounds of undue hardship, defendant and his wife being old apd in poor health. Judgment was given fer plaintiff for £6 6s rent, Without costs. Defendant was allowed £1 Is costs. AN ELECTRICIAN’S CLAIM. Robert E. Berry (Mr H. D. Acland), an electrical engineer of Christchurch, sued file United Pictures, Ltd. (Mr J. H Upham), for £32 10s, balance owing on ail account rendered by plaintiff to the defendant company. In the alternative plaintiff sued for the same sum for professional services rendered, and for supplying a report to the directors at their request. (Proceeding.) CIVIL COURT. UNDEFENDED CASES. Judgment for the plaintiff by default, with costs, was given in each of the following undefended civil cases:— W. H. Simms and Sons, Ltd., v. S. Clarke. £2O 16s 3d : International Harvester Company of New Zealand. Ltd., v James Higgins, £7O 15s 4d ; Garrick and Co. v. Joseph Collins, £6 9s 3d; MacFarlane and Co., Ltd., v. J. Lorgclly, £l2 11s 3d; D.T.O. v. J. H. 13ovd, £3 4s 9d ; W. Pearce v. Sarah Jane Bluett, £2 0s 9c} ; W. Strange and Co., Ltd., v. Hera. Heim, £25 13s 7<l ; Graham, Wilson and Smellie v. William S. Cornelius, £lO ISa 6d. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. H. D. Sutherland (Mr Cracroft Wilson) proceeded agaiust George G Mitchell for the payment, of a debt of £6 Is 9d. There was no appearance of debtor, who was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment. J. Carl, who did not appear, was ordered to pay forthwith to Albert Griffen (Mr Childs) a debt of £43 lie 6d, in default two months’ imprisonment. FARMER v. SAW MILLER Herbert Arthur Hay, farmer, of Bnrwood, sued J. W. Malcolmson, sawmiller, for the sum of £73 Is lid, or in the alternative the plaintiff asked that accounts and an inquiry should be taken of tho position between the plaintiff and defendant in respect to an agreement entered into between them for the sale and purchase of logs on throe plantations known respectively as Racecoury> Road, Hopkins Homestead and Frenchman’s Farm, and that tho plaintiff should have judgment for such sum as might be found owing. Air K. M. Gresson appeared for the plaintiff and Mr Cracroft Wilson for the defendant. The case was proceeding when tho luncheon adjournment was taken.
