AMBULANCE BRIGADE.
WHAT IT STANDS FOR. Some stirring remarks on the duties of ambulance men were made by Major A. L. Gray, district superintendent of the St John Ambulance Brigade, on the occasion of the quarterly inspection of the Christchurch Ambulance Division last evening. Mr Eric Gray, superintendent of the division, presided l over a good attendance. Major Gray said that the Christchurch Ambulance Division deserved great credit for its splendid record during the past twelve months. The membership had shown a decided increase, and the number of accident cases treated was greater than it had over been. Ho was gratified to witness the splendid spirit that existed between the members, and the efficiency* of their work. This was as it should be, aa never before was co-operation among all divisions of th© brigade so necessary as at present- Time was when the ambulance movement waa rich and powerful, and it. was necessary in the interests of tho public that the movement should “come on top” again. The primary object of the St John Ambulance Brigade was to band together those who had qualified in the examinations of the St John Ambulance Association, and thus give them an opportunity to extend their knowledge and help the public simultaneously. No member of the St John Ambulance Brigade received as expected remuneration ; each had only one object in view, to help mankind. They should remember this and “ get together ” for the j good of the brigade Th© time had come when every ambulance man and woman should take a loyal interest in his or her work. The public failed, except in time of trouble, to realise what the St John Ambulance Brigade stood for, and it was therefore imperative that they should, “show fruit by which they might be known.” Following the address, which was re- ; oeived with great applause. Major Gray proceeded with the usual business i of the inspection, in which he was as- 1 sisied by th© corps officers. The com- ; petitions squads were then given testa in transport work.
