AN ARCHITECT’S EXAMINATION. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, September 28. JVIr H. B. Hail, architect, of Timaru, has made an examination of Lake Tekapo a! a source of electricity supply. taking a new line. He finds that after leaving Lake Tekapo the river takes a turn and three miles from its outlet approaches the lake again and is only one mile from it. A tunnel this distance would give a fall of 80ft, which with a minimum lake discharge of 4000 cusecs would give 30,000 li.p. at the turbines. He proposes aerial transmission at 55,000 volts via Mackenzie Pass (15 miles), then 40 miles to Timaru. He estimates the cost of tunnel, powerhouse and transmission line at £400,000, reticulation to every house in the district £240,000, a total of £4O per h.p. __
