EV6MTS OF THE WEEK. [Faosr Oca Corrxspoxxient.] MOTOR BOATING. The annual meeting gf the New Brighton Power Boat Club will be held to-night at 8 p.m. The coming season promises to bo a very good one, us several new bouts, both large cruisers and speed boats will he added to the club’s fleet, and will no doubt, add considerably to the already interesting races. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. Quite a feature at the ladies sixth annual prize distribution last Monday evening was a silent target competition, arranged by Mr 11. Stokes, m which seventeen members took part. Intense excitement prevailed until the final readings were known, Mrs Cooke securing first place with u beautiful allblack target of GO, Mrs White taking Mr Bishop’s prize for ttie best grouping. Amongst the all black targets were Mesdames Fa nth am, Robinson, Burmeistcr and Miss Mileson. Prior to the presentation the Captain (Mrs Salter) thanked the members for their regular attendance, and the keen sporting manner in which they had conducted th© season’s shooting. Appreciative reference was made to the veteran coach, Mr O. Burmeistcr, who has just co imp let ed seven years of coaching the various teams in Brighton. The captain had much pleasure in banding Mr Burmeistcr a handsome present, also Mr G. \V_ Bishop, who so generously assisted over a, very strenuous season. Tho coach suitably responded and congratulated the ladies on their very successful season. Prizes wore presented as follows: Championship.—Mrs West-on Ist; Mrs Salter, ex-champion, 2nd. Grand aggregate, Mrs Bunneister Ist;, Mrs Salter 2nd; (a) Competition.—Miss Mileson Ist, Mrs Harding 2nd; (b) Coinpetition.—Mrs Ainger Ist, Mrs Harding, 2ud ; (c.) Competition.—-Mrs F'ajitham Ifrfc, Mrs Cooke, 2nd ; (d) Competition. -Mrs Buchanan Ist, Mrs M’Clelland 2nd; (e) Competition. -Mrs Buchanan Ist, Airs Brookes 2nd: <f) Competition.—Alro Cooke Ist, Airs White 2nd ; (g) Oompetii ion. --Airs White Ist, Airs Stokes 2nd, Mrs Robinson 3rd. A splendid supper was served, the tables being decorated with fruit and the club’s colours, and presided over by Aiosdallies Ainger and Harding. A match against the men’s team will be fired next Alonday evening and on Thursday tho club’s annual dance will take place in the Pier Hall. PICTURES.

WEDDING. .At- tho Methodist Church, Now Brighton, on Wednesday afternoon, was cejobrated tlie wedding of Alias Amy Bulk, youngest daughter of Airs E. Palk, Alston, Beresford Street, to Air ,1. H. L. Kiddey, of Christchurch. The brido vas given away bv her brother, Air Geo. Palk, and was attended by her sister, Alisa Elsie Palk as bridesmaid. The bridegroom was attended by Air W. D. Brunsden, of LincolnAir J. W. Baker, uncle of the bride, presided at the organ. After • the ceremony the bride’s mother entertained over seventy guests at Stokoa’ Balcony Tea Rooms, where a dainty wedding breakfast was served. A feature of the breakfast was tho beautiful wedding cake presented by Air P. Alexander, an uncle of the bride. The usual toasts were musically honoured, and later the guests adjourned to the residence of Airs Palk. Air and Airs J. Ividdey left later ou their wedding tour, the brido wearing a saxe blue tailored costume with hat to match, and wkito furs. BURNS CLtJB. The final gathering of members of the Burns Club took place in the Pier Hall on Thursday night, when the wind-up of a successful 6eason was celebrated by a fancy dress dance. The hall was well filled, and the many brightly coloured costumes of the dancers presented a gay sight. Dancing was indulged in until one d'clock, tho music beiiio* supplied by Alies Tillvshort’s orchestra. Tho ladies’ prizes for the host fancy dress were won by Airs Payne first (Eastern Lady) and AliS3 Cockle second (Hons© to Let), whilst the gents’ prizes were won by Mr R. A. Stokes first (Rompter) und Air J’. Stokes second (Pawnbroker). A special prize of a gold brooch, presented by Air P. C. Sherlock, was awarded to Airs Payne for tho most original costume. AIETHODIST CHURCH, X sale of work arranged by the Ladies’ Guild was held in the Alethodist Schoolroom ou Thursday last. The sale was opened by the Alayor (Air J. Gam bio), who was accompanied by the Alavoresß and Alrt? Wyatt, sour., president of the Ladies’ Guild. The Rev W. Walker presided. In declaring the sale open the Alayor very heartily congratulated tho ladies of the church upon their energetic and devoted labours on behalf of debt reduction in church and parsonage. A solo was rendered by Airs H. Dean. During tho ©veiling a short concert was held, when songs were rendered by Mesdames F. Burrows, A. Dey, E. J. Cooper, Aliss Lottie Holden and Air F. Burrows. Miss Edna Spedding gave two violin sol op. Airs I>. Bain and Afiss Holden officiated at the piano. It is expected that the total proceeds of the sale will approximate the sum of £SO. SOUTH BRIGHTON AFFAIRS. Invitation is extended to ali children living south of Rodney' Street to attend tea and games next Saturday in the South Brighton Hall. Tho committee earnestly desire tho ladies of the district to assist at tho function. BOWLING. Thanks to the work of the green supervisor (Captain A. W. Owles), the green is in first-class order. Last week’s rain had a very beneficial effect. The season will bo evened on October 8. NEW BRIGHTON BAND. A meeting of all interested in ill© formation ol a brass band for New Brighton will be bold in the Council Chambers, Nelson Street, on Tuesday evening next, at 8 p.rn. Air Fox will ho in attendance to meet intending members. The Alayor of New Brighton in sites all interested to make a point of being present. NORTH BEACH NOTES.

A meeting of the Sot.la? Committee of the North Beach Surf Club was held on Itiesday evening. It was reported that twelve euchre socials had been held during the winter in tho Pavilion, and otvo at the trotting course. It is expected that the sum of £2O will be netted as a result of the season’s socials. It was decided to tender a complimentary social to the ladies ou Saturduv, October 1. The ten dor of Air G eo. Simpson has boon accopted by Air R. Bar grove for a shop ui brick at North Beach. Tho shop will have a frontage of 40ft to Bowbill Road, near the Esplanade. Five shops are to be erected on the corner of Bowhill Road and the Esplanade, and the building will probably be a three-storey one. The contractor is making good progress with tho extensive addition to the Ozone Cafe. Tho North Beach Gala Committee is more than pleased with the offers of help in various ways at the Gala. Needless to say, all are thankfully received as the committeo is out to give the public a record day of attractions. Air W. N. Ryan, the well-known contractor, has purchased ‘ k Kinver,” Marriott’s Road, North Boach, and will shortly take up his residence there. Air Ryan has tor some considerable time lived at Bridge Street, South Brighton. Ho took an active part in matters for the welfare and progress of that part of Brighton.
